Additional Information
Fundraising activities are important in support of the new Portage Community Soccer Complex.

Details of the county-wide field development program may be found at the USF web site.
Below is important information from our trainers (Keith Kroll, Margaret von Steinen, Silvia Salemka) a couple years ago, with a few minor modifications to make it current. This applies this year as well:
Coaching and Club Philosophy
With young players, the coaching emphasis will be on developing ball handling skills and technique, and tactics through small-sided games and scrimmaging. Tactical emphasis will emphasize possession soccer. Training sessions (90 min) will emphasize lots of touches on the ball. During training sessions, coaches will provide players with clear technical and tactical instructions: players will understand what they are doing and why they are doing it
Players Code of Conduct
Being selected to play for the Portage Soccer Club is a privilege. Players will be expected to conduct themselves in a manner which reflects the mission and purposes of the Portage Soccer Club and the U11 Girls teams.
The purposes of the Portage Soccer Club U11 team are to play hard, to foster a love for the game, and to enjoy soccer at a competitive level.
Because the team's focus will be on player development, players will play all field positions during the season, and every effort will be made to get each (field) player suitably equitable playing time. Exceptions to suitably equitable playing time will be made due to injury, player absence, training attendance and effort, and goalkeeping. Those players demonstrating the best effort and attitude in training will earn the "extra" minutes.
The following Players Code of Conduct shall apply in all activities with the Portage Soccer Club's U11 Girls team during the Fall 2002 and Spring 2003 seasons:
Training: Players are encouraged to attend all training sessions. Players should arrive on time for each training session wearing shorts, T-shirt, shinguards, and soccer shoes, along with a number 4 ball and a water bottle. They should come ready to train!
Games: Players should arrive no later than 45 minutes before a scheduled game ready to play! That means wearing the proper equipment and uniform (warm-up shirt, uniform shorts, shinguards, socks covering shinguards, ball, and soccer shoes). That includes having hair pulled up and earings out. Be sure to bring both game jerseys to every game.
Absences: Players are responsible for attending all training sessions and games. If a player is unable to make a training session or game, the player should contact her coach with as much advance notice as possible. Letting the coach know that you are unable to attend a training session or game helps them plan for it at best as possible.
Behavior: All Portage Soccer Club U11 Girls players are expected to behave in a sportsman-like manner at all training sessions, games, and tournaments. This applies in the hotels as well. "Fair Play" is expected of all players during games, and dignified behavior is expected off the field too.
Discipline: Any violations of the "Players Code of Conduct" will be discussed between the coaches and the player and her parents.
Coaches Code of Conduct
Just as playing for the Portage Soccer Club is a privilege, so too is coaching for the club. Coaches will conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the mission and purposes of the Portage Soccer Club and the U11 Girls teams. They will care for each player as an individual and as a valuable member of the team. They will provide players with suitable and equitable opportunities to play. They will always be positive toward players, and will always show good sportsmanship toward opponents and referees.
Parents Code of Conduct
Parents are welcome to stay and watch training sessions. During games, parents must be positive toward our team, show respect for our opponent, and make no comments toward the referee. Also, please (absolutely, positively) NO COACHING during the game from the sideline. Unlike many sports, soccer is a free-flowing game where players must make instant decisions on the field (i.e., "plays" are not called out and run). "Coaching" from the sideline inhibits a player's ability to make decisions for herself on the field, inhibits technical and tactical developments, and distracts the player from the game. Watch and cheer, but please do not coach.
Please feel free to talk with us (trainers and coaches) about any questions you have during the season. Also, the Portage Soccer Club Board has a parent representative with whom you may discuss any questions or concerns.
Parents will be required to participate in club fund-raising activities and to work at the Portage Invitational Soccer Tournament in July.
