Congratulations on a fine spring season. By finishing with a winning record, you're one of only four teams in the state to have maintained your premier 1 standing, and assured more good competion next spring. Scores of all D1 games are available on the results page, and standings for all ages and divisions are available at the MSPSL site.
Tryouts for next year's team will be Monday June 17 and Thursday June 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 at Flescher Field in Oshtemo. For more information, call Jim Rigdon or Sandy Bailey or Peggy Staver.
No practice Tuesday June 11, but practice will be held Thursday June 13 at 11:00 am. Practices the week before KISS will be at the usual times. See the training schedule for complete details.
The KISS Tournament schedule is now available. GLS plays the GVP River Rats at 12:00 Saturday on field 9, and the Jr Irish Cyclones at 4:30 Saturday on field 9. Depending on how those games go, GLS will play at 9:00 am Sunday on fields 1 or 2, or 12:30 on field 12. For whoever qualifies, the final is 2:15 Sunday on field 2.
Dayton Warrior Classic- Out of 24 U14 teams invited, GLS Premier finished runner up to the Ambassadors (Ohio South State Cup Champion). Congratulations on a great tourney.
In State Cup GLS upset the top seed in its pool to advance to the quarterfinals, but then bowed out to #2 seed Troy. Revenge was had the following week when Troy was upset by GLS. Congratulations to Troy on their State Cup win though, and congratulations to Vardar and CA United for making it to the finals. Scores of U-14 State Cup games are shown on the State Cup brackets and results page.
The Friendly March 23 with Vardar was well worth the drive and the April 7 friendly with Chicago Sockers at Ramona Park provided more good competition to get GLS ready for the rigors of MSPSL and State Cup matches coming up. I promised the other parents I wouldn't say anything about the April 13 "friendly" with the parents, so we'll leave it at that. The April 17 friendly with AC Storm up at the Sports Xchange was definitely better competition for the guys.
Regular season MSPSL sponsored by Farmer Jack: GLS moved up to the first level this spring where they'll join Troy Inferno, Rochester Lightning, Michigan Wolves, GVP, and Northville Sting. The first two games of the season have been scheduled for us in Saginaw by the State, to give ODP coaches a chance to look at all players in D1 and D2, so chalk up yet another road trip (with 6:00 pm game times Saturday and Sunday). Otherwise GLS plays just about every Saturday and Sunday, with both GVP games on Wednesdays. See the complete game schedule for details and field assignments.
Indoor Friendlies with Vardar and NOA over the holiday break on the full-size field were an enjoyable experience. Players, coaches, and parents appreciated the invitation.
Final Fall MSPSL record: 6-2-2. Congratulations on a very respectable fall season. You showed excellent poise in maintaining a competitive game even when unexpected injuries, illness, and religious committments seriously depleted our numbers. All teams face adversity in one form or another, and you met the challenge by being the only team to have defeated a GVP team that's one of the very best in the state, and your parents and friends are proud of you. Preseason Friendlies. Thanks to our friends from Chicago Magic, Vardar, and Pacesetters for inviting us to participate in preseason scrimmages last fall. The competition couldn't have been better, and we enjoyed the experience.
The Best of the Midwest tournament in Chicago last September featured many strong teams, and the experiences on the Polo Grounds fields helped prepare everyone for the type of competition they'll be seeing more of in the future.
Last year's U13 team results are still available. Click here for more info.
